Jesus, who made clear before the council that He is the Son of God, is now led away before Pilate. The accusers claimed that Jesus was perverting the people, forbidding them to pay taxes, and calling Himself a king. They branded the Lord, who came to deliver people from sin, as one who was throwing the nation into disorder. Yet from the mouth of Pilate, who heard that accusation, came the word that there was no fault in Jesus. This is because, however fierce the accusation may be, the nature of the One who has no sin does not change. As we look at this trial, we must clearly know the charges people attached to Him and the work of salvation that Jesus actually accomplishes.
