Even among offerings that went into the same treasury, what portion each one was to the person who gave it can differ from one to another. We easily compare first the amount seen before our eyes, but Jesus saw even the circumstances of the giver and the meaning of that offering. Luke records, “He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites” (Luke 21:1–2). In the place where the offerings of the rich were going in, the two mites the poor widow gave did not escape the Lord’s eyes either. That small giving was not erased before the Lord just because it was placed side by side with the large possessions of others.
