Even while serving the Lord day by day, when our bodies grow weary and the visible fruit is little, we come to think how much of what we are doing now will remain. People’s memory does not last long, and there is also an end to the time and strength we can use. If we regard only the life on this earth as everything, it can feel better to secure first the gain that will come back to ourselves than to labor for others. But the life the Lord promised to the saints is not a life that ends together with the last day of the flesh. When we look to that promise, we can see today’s labor with new eyes.
