Show Notes

The story the Sadducees brought to Jesus leads to death from beginning to end. It is the story that one woman married seven brothers in turn, but all of them died without children, and finally the woman died too. They thought that if the dead were to live again, the marital relationship could not be settled. So they asked, “Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife does she become? For all seven had her as wife” (Luke 20:33). The Sadducees were people who, while claiming to believe in God, maintained that once a person dies, that is the end. Rather than asking because they wanted to know about the resurrection, they were trying to defend their claim that there is no resurrection by putting forward the contradiction they had in mind.
