The vinedressers received the opportunity to work in the vineyard, but before they knew it they were trying to make that vineyard their own. The fact that they had long done the work entrusted to them does not let them take the place of the owner. The reason Jesus speaks this parable is to expose the heart that enjoys what it has received from God and yet refuses God’s will. We must examine whether, while saying that we serve the Lord, we also have the heart to accept the Lord’s word.
