If we think that what is in our hands is our own, it is easy to look only at how much more we can gather. But if it is something we have been entrusted with and use for a while, we come to consider both the purpose for which we use it and the will of the One who entrusted it to us. Jesus taught His disciples this difference through the affair of a steward. If the wealth and time given to us are not eternal, for what should we use them while we are holding on to them? The Lord makes us look beyond immediate benefit to the everlasting home into which we will enter.
