God comes to find and meets those who want to live righteously. God knows well who those who seek Him are. God knows well the heart of such a person who really wants to live righteously. In this word we have read, a chief tax collector named Zacchaeus appears. This man, hearing that Jesus was coming to his town, ran out because he was short and climbed up a sycamore tree, and while looking to see who Jesus was, he came to meet Him. When Zacchaeus was up in the sycamore tree, Jesus, passing under that sycamore tree, looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house” (Luke 19:5). Zacchaeus came down very joyfully and held a feast, and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold” (Luke 19:8). What do these words mean? We see that until then he had really wanted to live righteously but had gone on without being able to live that way, and that now, after meeting the Lord, a heart that wants to live righteously arose in Zacchaeus.
