Looking at the passage we have read, it is the scene where Jesus, having spoken the parable of the minas, goes immediately afterward toward Jerusalem to receive the punishment of the Cross. On His way toward Jerusalem, “It came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, ‘Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. And if anyone asks you, “Why are you loosing it?” thus you shall say to him, “Because the Lord has need of it.”’” (Luke 19:29–31). This is what He said. Let us consider together this part, where the Lord has need of the colt that is tied. Our Lord said that if they saw a colt tied, on which no one had ever sat, they should loose it and bring it. And He said that if people asked why they were loosing someone else’s colt, they should say that the Lord had need of it. As we read the Bible, there are things that, in a way, seem absurd. How could He tell them to loose and bring someone else’s colt, and to say, when people asked why they were doing such a thing, that the Lord had need of it? From people’s point of view it sounds like nonsense, but when it is seen with the eyes of faith and from the standpoint of faith, it is a story that makes sense. Our God often calls as His workers many people who are tied to the world and have not yet served this world. And there are also times when the Lord calls some people as His workers while they are in the midst of doing the work of the world.
