In a place where many people are moving together, one person’s desperate words can easily be drowned out. When Jesus was coming near Jericho, too, the multitude was passing by, and by the roadside a blind man sat begging. When he asked for help, those who went before rebuked him and told him to be quiet. But this story does not end with that man’s cry being blocked. In the place where Jesus stood still, we see the mercy of the Lord, who cares for one person whom people easily pass by.
