When we think that what we have been waiting for will soon be accomplished, it is easy to reckon first what we will receive afterward. The work that actually must be done until that day looks small, and if the result does not appear quickly, the waiting itself feels meaningless. When they had come near Jerusalem, people thought the kingdom of God would appear right away. In the face of that expectation, Jesus spoke about a nobleman who went away to receive a kingdom and the silver he entrusted to his servants. This parable leads the heart that asked only when the good day would come to the place of examining what we have been entrusted with and are living out today, believing in the Lord who will come again.
