While telling His disciples what would happen in the future, Jesus did not hide the fearful reality. He told them not only of wars and disasters but also that the disciples themselves would be persecuted because of the name of Jesus. We who hear this word easily think first of the size of the suffering, but we must also see why the Lord tells of it beforehand. It is not that He means to tell them to endure suffering without any help; it is so that when the disciples face those things, they will remember the Lord’s word and rely on the Savior, who is with them.
