Even in the place where we pray to God, there are times when another person’s fault comes to mind first. If we see another’s faults and think that we are better than that person, our hearts may feel at ease for a moment, but that comparison cannot give us the righteousness with which we can stand before God. The two men Jesus spoke of also went up to the same temple to pray, but they did not obtain the same conclusion. Before asking whether we are better than anyone, the Lord makes us examine what we believe in as we stand before God.
