The women prepared spices to apply to Jesus’ body and went to the tomb at dawn on the first day of the week. The place they went to was the spot where the Lord’s body had been laid, but the news they came to hear there was the word that the Lord had risen. Even the spices prepared with a loving heart could not reverse death, but Jesus had already overcome death and risen again. What the women needed before the empty tomb was not more preparation but remembering the word the Lord had spoken before.
