The women who had prepared spices did not immediately run toward the tomb. Luke records that they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment. Those who had loved Jesus and followed Him even to the place of burial now stopped the work they had been doing. If we think that only constant movement is the evidence of love, this rest is hard to understand, but they did not separate the heart that serves the Lord from following the word of God. Before this quiet scene, we must look back on whether our zeal, too, is within the word.
