I would like to speak about Zacchaeus in Luke chapter 19. Dear fellow believers, you know Zacchaeus well, don’t you? Among those who believe in Jesus, there would be no one who does not know Zacchaeus. This word is the very passage in which Zacchaeus climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus. It is a well-known passage, as Zacchaeus the tax collector, who climbed up the sycamore tree because he wanted to see Jesus, appears even in a hymn. Zacchaeus accepted Jesus and received a blessing, and by welcoming Jesus into his heart, he underwent an amazing and great change. This event of Zacchaeus gives us a tremendously amazing lesson. It says, “Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho” (Luke 19:1). ‘Jericho’ has the meaning of fragrance, and it refers to this world. Spiritually speaking, that Jesus entered the region of Jericho, which has the meaning of fragrance, in the nation of Israel means that our Lord left the throne of the kingdom of heaven and came into this world.
